Welcome to san andrés and providencia islands natural Colombian paradise
The small Caribbean island of San Andres, whilst technically part of Colombia, lies just 70km from the coast of Nicaragua and is, along with it’s neighboring island of Providencia, one of Colombia’s most stunning Caribbean regions. With it’s breathtaking ‘Sea of Seven Colors’, rich cultural heritage and marvelous diving and snorkeling opportunities, San Andres is a highly popular holiday destination for Colombians. However, with the rise in budget airlines such as Viva Colombia, San Andres is becoming increasingly popular as a traveler’s and backpacker’s destination as well.
The Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina (or San Andres and Providencia) is located about 482 miles north west of Colombia and 140 miles west of the Nicaraguan coast.

Places to visit
The aquarium: A precious key, surrounded with a reef of coral and abundance of beautiful goldfishes. It is an ideal place for the lovers of the snorkeling and of the marine life. This one located at half an hour of San Andres, in boat.
Blow Hole:
This one located in the south top of the island. There treats itself about a natural phenomenon produced by a series of tunnels underground that they begin in the coral reefs and end in an alone hole to several meters of of the water. When the tide rises and a wave manages to enter strongly inside these tunnels, throws the air compressed by the hole.
the cave of morgan :
The islanders insist on saying that the pirate Henry Morgan I conceal many of his exchequers in this place. What if it is true is that diving here is the only experience, since this coral cave has many tunnels that end in a deep lagoon.
The Rondon: It is to the principal plate of the island food cooked based on milk of coconut with fish, snail, pigtail (tail of pork), accompanied of yam, yucca, banana, fruit of bread and dumpling (roll of flour of wheat).
Soup of crab: A delicious soup prepared for base du flesh of meat of crab or point and accompanied of yucca, banana, yam, eats dumpling and pigtail.
Beans with pig tail:Soup prepared with red beans, pigtail, eats, ahuyama, dumpling and basil.
Bread of coconut: It is done by flour, sugar, lard, butter, salt, milk of coconut and powder to bake.
Island bread: There waters down yeast, butter, sugar, salt, oil, powder to bake and milk of coconut.
You freight of flour or banana: Powder of baking, milk or water, sugar, oil.
Music and dance:San Andres and Providencia are famous for their Caribbean rhythms of calypso, socca, reggae, and church music. All celebrated in May in the Green Festival San Andres’s tradition of great musicians spills into contemporary music.
people:
Before the tourism boom of the 1950s, the main population of San Andres was an Afro-Carribean ethnic group called the Raizal. They speak Creole. Many islanders still speak English. With the tide of tourism, though, the islands have a more Latin-American feel than English-Caribbean, the main language being Spanish.
Providencia still maintains a lot of its English-Caribbeanism, though it’s losing a little of that as well.
Weather - Climate - San Andres
Afternoon Caribbean breezes make up for the unforgiving tropical sun during the days. (Wear sunscreen!). With average temperatures between 26 to 29 degrees, centigrade, it can get a little uncomfortable because of the humidity. The rainy season is from September to December and not-as-rainy season is from May to June.
